NGP Assignment 3

Q • Points 35 • Submitting a file upload Purpose This assignment is intended to help you do the following: • Plan and conduct effective task group meetings. • Apply principles of effective group communication. • Apply effective group communication strategies. Overview Now that you have chosen a nonprofit "client," you need to do a basic needs assessment and put a preliminary project proposal together. At this phase, you are laying out the problem your project will address and how you would address it (e.g., an event proposal, a workshop proposal, a communication proposal, etc.) Action Items 1. As a group, write and submit a 2- to 3-page double-spaced paper describing your process to date and what type of project you would like to focus on. o Note that helping nonprofits is great, but respecting their policies is very important. For obvious reasons, organizations protect the privacy of their employees and the publics they serve. You may not be permitted to survey people the nonprofit serves if that is against their policies. Find out their rules pertaining to communication. 2. Address the following in your paper, using information gathered previously: o What are the needs of the organization? Interviews with organization members are required and you may survey individuals in your own network. Be sure to include complete information about when the interview was conducted. o Specify the broad area you would address and then create a specific actionable objective. o Describe the nature and scope of the problem you would address. For example: Is their volunteer structure disorganized or relatively unsupported? What factors contribute to the problem and how does it impact the organization? o Solutions considered by others and their level of success. How have competitors dealt with the problem? Are there best practices or good models to reference? 3. Have one person in your group submit the completed first draft of your assignment. Your work will automatically be checked by Turnitin. 4. Access your Turnitin report by reviewing your Submission Details for this assignment. Revise your work as needed based on the feedback. 5. By the due date indicated, have one person in your group re-submit the final version of your work. That person should send all group members an email notifying them that the document has been submitted. The not-for-profit organization group one has chosen is the WARM Center of Rhode Island, in this preliminary project we plan to explain the identified problems and the needs of the organization as well as the broad area of focus on the proposed solutions. The WARM Center provides many services to southern Rhode Island’s low-income and homeless community. On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, an interview was conducted with Mojie Friel, Special Projects Coordinator at the WARM Center. Ms. Friel was very helpful in answering the list of questions our group had compiled to determine the organization’s present challenges. Our group could not conduct any interviews with the public the organization serves due to their living situations and out of respect for their privacy.
